Baby Nightmares?

Post by mightymulhern »

Anyone every heard of a baby having nightmares?

Sydney has apparently (I haven't witnessed this first hand) woken up 2 or 3 times now and gone right into a screaming/crying fit where she's been totally inconsolable for an extended period of time. By contrast, normally when she wakes up, she starts talking, gets a little whiney, and eventually starts crying it no one pays attention to her.

During the last episode of this, Meghan put her in the bath tub and the water snapped her out of it. Meghan described it as her screaming until she hit the water and then getting a confused look on her face as if to say "What am I doing in the bath tub?" after which she was instantly happy.

Opinions?

What a good mom Meghan is to think of waking Sydney up from nightmares with a soothing bath. I'm not sure I would have thought of doing that. Nightmares are not unusual in our family. Not that they are real frequent, but Michael has had some bouts with sleep problems in the past and so have I. I also remember my sister's children having some real problems when they were children. Debbie, especially would have really bad nightmares as a small child from which they were not able to wake her. I'm sure nobody thought of putting her in water. Motherly instinct is a wonderful thing.

I have to give my sister Emily credit for the bath idea. She had mentioned it awhile back when we were talking about inconsolable crying. This is the first time I thought to try it.
